Urkaine Reports Massive Russian Strike Targeting Power Grid

(MENAFN) Ukraine reported Saturday that Russian forces launched a "massive" aerial assault targeting the nation's energy infrastructure and power facilities.

Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal declared via Telegram that power substations along with 750 kV and 330 kV transmission lines—which he characterized as the backbone of the country's electrical system—came under bombardment.

Confirming the strikes also struck the Burshtyn and Dobrotvir thermal power plants in western Ukraine, Shmyhal noted personnel at the nation's nuclear facilities reduced reactor output as a precautionary measure.

Shmyhal stated: "As of now, 4.5–5 emergency outage schedules have been applied throughout Ukraine, and special emergency outage schedules are in place in the eastern and northern regions."

The minister emphasized the bombardment remains active, with energy technicians prepared to commence repairs immediately once conditions permit safe operations.

Shmyhal revealed that Ukraine's grid operator Ukrenergo has appealed for urgent support from neighboring Poland amid the crisis. The operator had previously implemented emergency blackouts across most territories.

Ukrainian private energy company DTEK separately confirmed attacks on its thermal generation stations spanning multiple areas, causing "significant" destruction.

Russian officials have issued no statement regarding the offensive.
